Directed and played with terrific verve, this moves so fast from one special effects set-piece to the next that there's no time at all to reflect on the basic ridiculousness of its Chinese box of a plot.

What's entertaining about Back to the Future Part II is the way Christopher Lloyd, as Doc, breathlessly tries to figure out what's happening as he flies through time trying to patch everything together again.

Part II is a cluttered debasement of the original film's charms...

...the film works best through its magnificent technical achievements (...) and the inherent charm of Fox, Lloyd and, especially, the delightfully menacing Thomas F. Wilson, reprising his role as the awful Biff Tannen.
