Bell is as accomplished a dancer as he is an actor, carrying the movie with astonishing aplomb and turning in the sort of star-making performance that leaves you regretting the fact he won't be playing Harry Potter any time soon.

Jamie Bell is an engaging Billy, earnest and high-spirited, and a pretty good dancer, too.

...a major coup for director Stephen Daldry and his excellent cast. Leave your cynicism at the door and you'll have a ball.

Its appeal lies in the way it draws the audience into a bond with the protagonist and the manner in which it avoids painting the supporting players with one brush.
