This campy extravaganza has it all - heroes, villains, beautiful women and high stakes. Laughably bad and fantastically good all at once, this is a guilty pleasure that everyone can enjoy.
With the dizzying high-speed montage of Flash Gordon comic strip frames that starts the film, Hodges can claim to have inspired the signature images that begin every 21st-century Marvel movie.
This is space opera (...) It's fun to see it done with energy and love and without the pseudo-meaningful apparatus of the Force and TrekkiePower.
A film whose naive, eager-to-please energy is almost as transporting as Flash's rocketship, FLASH GORDON is likely to delight even the fussiest audiences.
