The Natural

The first of Barry Levinson’s directing-only assignments, this sentimental period drama about a gifted 1930s baseball player and perennial loser proved the director could handle a big league cast (...) and epic imagery....

Redford plays Roy Hobbs, a middle-aged ballplayer making his comeback. It's the last out of the last inning of the crucial play-off game, and everything depends on him.

It's very possible not to appreciate a baseball game; the same cannot be said about this production.
