Edward Scissorhands

Detta är en fantastisk saga för både stora som små och den lämnar definitivt inte någon oberörd. Här finns teman som vi alla kan känna igen – kärlek, utstötthet, grupptryck, småstadsmentalitet och missförstånd.

Edward is, of course, Burton's surreal portrait of himself as an artist: a wounded child converting his private darkness into outlandish pop visions. Like Edward, he finds the light.

...the real joys here are the performances, particularly from Depp. It's still one of his finest moments, in a movie that is certainly one of the best fantasy films ever made.

A Gothic fairytale? A twisted Christmas? A lonely, Frankenstein-style misunderstood outsider? Johnny Depp starring as the director's surrogateon screen? That'll be Mr Tim Burton, then.
