The antidote to the 'gore-blimey-g'v'nor' school of gangster film- making. This is sleekly shot and features scene stealing turns by Bettany and McDowell.
...the film has a kind of hard, cold effect.
The movie has energy and danger and depraved wit.
Be grateful, then, for some terrific performances as we're dragged down a darkened Memory Lane for a solid kicking.
It does have a few interesting flourishes and some exceptional performances that buoy the more mundane aspects of the movie.
