Stylish directing debut from Christoph Waltz, starring as a charmer not to be believed.

What the film does do well is recreate the world of Washington's political elite; the desperation simmering just beneath the surface of the games, the arrogance, and the social extravagance.

The acting is first-rate from start to finish, but it is really Mr. Waltz who keeps the action flowing.

...as a two-hander, it’s a far more rewarding picture that keeps us intrigued about this bizarre relationship until the very end.
