...this kind of well-written project is rarely so effectively realised. Much credit has to go to Rodriguez, Kusama's surly but charismatic lead.

The film has rough edges to go with its scruffy surroundings, but most of it works and you can see the influence of indie godfather John Sayles...

Rodriguez, a newcomer, seems to have a natural affinity for the camera.
