It's about two classic eccentrics, two people who refuse to live the way they're supposed to, but by the film's end we see that they live fully, in ways of their own choosing.

It is tough to top the intrigue and charisma of the real-life Edies, but Barrymore and Lange give it their best shot.

Who's going to let something as minor as filmmaking - then and now - get in the way of a story as good as this?
