Trumbo has taken the most difficult sort of material -- the story of a soldier who lost his arms, his legs, and most of his face in [World War I] -- and handled it, strange to say, in a way that's not so much anti-war as pro-life.
...it is difficult not to be moved by the film and Bottoms' fine performance
The impressive and deliberate performance serves as another reminder than Ben McKenzie 2.0 is here to stay.
The film refuses to treat war as an abstraction, focusing instead on one bloody mess that used to be a man.
