Director of an amateur stage production, Doug Michaels fires would-be actor Ben Matlock from his role as a detective, claiming he’s seen kumquats with more talent. However, the tables soon turn when Michaels is accused of murdering the leading lady.

It’s a race against time as Matlock tries to save conman Adam Spangler from being executed for a murder he claims he never committed.

Against Matlock’s approval, his associate, Cliff Lewis, advertises for a private client. He is hired by a flaky woman who becomes the main suspect in the murder of the plastic surgeon she sued.
