Monroe goes head to head with his new boss when he elects to operate on a patient with a deadly vascular anomaly.

Bremner and Shepherd's relationship is unravelling and Monroe finds himself having to choose between his trainees. Also, a woman with an aggressive brain tumour becomes one of the most challenging cases of the neurosurgeon's career.

As Shepherd and Witney reel from their liaison, Monroe finds himself without purpose after a catastrophic operation and grave complications mean Bremner's operation on a five-year-old refugee turns into a race against time.

Monroe has his hands full pursuing Lizzie while playing agony aunt to Shepherd. Then an awkward, violent woman is admitted to St Matthew's with a deadly cerebral aneurysm and the neurosurgeon has to call on Bremner if they are going to save her life.

Monroe and Bremner attempt to perform miracles in parallel - curing a middle-aged woman's epilepsy and conducting a heart transplant on a teenage girl. However, their love lives are about to come unstuck.

Nick's stag party is halted when a fatal traffic accident results in the whole team being called in to the hospital - where the facilities are stretched to breaking point. Bremner and Shepherd face an agonising decision about their relationship.
