Echoes of The Silence Of The Lambs ring strong, of course, simply due to common subject matter. But what made that such a classic was its conviction of performance and such conviction is here, too - in spades.

Again [Morgan Freeman] plays a policeman on the trail of a kinky serial killer, and again the shadows are deep and the antagonist is brilliant and the crimes are supposed to send some kind of a twisted message.

...it does deliver enough shocks and maintain just enough menace to keep the edge of your seat happily occupied.

...it features a pair of well-developed characters, the plot contains some clever twists and turns, the dialogue is reasonable, and director Gary Fleder (...) keeps the level of tension and intrigue high.

Fleder delivers the requisite shocks, and his direction is brisk, efficient and occasionally stylish...
