On 5 December 1986, Malik Oussekine, a 22-year-old student, is beaten to death in the Latin Quarter of Paris by several on-duty police officers.

Malik's death shocks the whole of France and Devaquet’s resignation seems to be an early victory. But for the Oussekine family, the fight has only just begun.

The Oussekine family are increasingly divided over which strategy to adopt, and gradually the family breaks apart. Fortunately, the only eyewitness has spoken out, meaning a court hearing may finally be possible.
