School Daze

...a compelling time capsule of racial politics in the late '80s, ethnographically sealed-off in a hothouse micro-environment (...) that's as constrictive as Lee's varying plot threads and stylistic whims are profuse.

...an entertaining comedy, but also much more than that. There is no doubt in my mind that “School Daze,” in its own way, is one of the most honest and revealing movies I’ve ever seen about modern middle-class black life in America.
