A surprisingly subtle examination of [a] journalistic scandal in which Stephen Glass, a 24-year-old reporter for Washington's New Republic, was revealed to have made up a large proportion of at least 27 of his 41 stories.
...plays more like an exquisitely satisfying office drama than a shock exposé, offering punters the pleasure of witnessing that wheedling workplace lickspittle who is constantly making coffee (...) finally getting his comeuppance.
The movie is smart about journalism…
...Shattered Glass speaks simultaneously to our humanity and sense of moral outrage.
Most persuasively, the movie considers journalism’s context, ever shifting and self-serving. And while it holds journalism—and journalists—to account, it also shows how easily the whole business collapses…
