...THE BROOD is a mature, controlled work that finds horror not only in such institutions as hospitals and schools but, more specifically, in the family unit itself.
It has parallels with Forbidden Planet, and gives Alien a close run in the “unnatural births” stakes, but David Cronenberg’s killer-kids mystery is also, at heart, a soapy melodrama.
