Diesel, the diesel shunter, isn't a very easy engine to be friends with; Diesel is always bumping the other engines and laughing; One day, he shunts Daisy the highly sprung diesel railcar and thinks no more about it.

Diesel is sick and tired of hearing Daisy the diesel railcar describe herself as a single engine; when Diesel overhears Thomas describing Harvey as one of a kind, he spots the chance to make mischief.

When Sir Topham Hatt catches a nasty cold, his mother says she will run the railway while he is sick; but Dowager Hatt soon has Thomas collecting her new hat from Brendam Docks, leaving Edward to carry Thomas' passengers.

Millie has extra work to do, including collecting gravel from the quarry for the Dinosaur Park, so the earl asks Stephen and Glynn to help out with her other jobs, but the two engines are only half listening and keep forgetting.

Sir Topham Hatt splashes out on a new public address system at Knapford; Edward is dispatched to the scrap yard with the old P.A., and Reg is delighted to have a fully functioning sound system to play his music.

Toby is worried when Henrietta has to go to the Steamworks to have her seats refurbished; Sir Topham Hatt provides a replacement carriage for Toby, and her name is Hannah; Hannah proves to be very headstrong and reckless.

Cranky is starting to creak, and Salty teases him about his age, joking that Cranky is destined for the scrap yard; when Thomas mentions the new cranes, Cranky starts to imagine that maybe Sir Topham Hatt is planning to replace him.

Carly is the new crane at Brendam Docks and she is awake early and keen to start working; Cranky tries to be polite, but very soon he finds himself with nothing to do as Carly busily loads and unloads most of the cars and ships.

Bertie has to go to the garage and Thomas takes his passengers for him; But when Thomas stops at his first stop one of Bertie's passengers looks worried and he's an old man; He explains that Bertie stops between the places Thomas stops.

Gordon teases Philip about the number 68 that he has painted on his side, suggesting it's because Philip has broken down 68 times; This prompts Philip to find out the real reason he is number 68; Unfortunately, nobody he asks seems to know.

James boasts that he's the fastest red engine on Sodor; Thomas says Rosie might be faster and says that she is painted red now; James finds Rosie and challenges her to a race.

Edward is sent to stay at Philip's shed; Philip is so excited that he chatters away all night and Edward doesn't get a wink of sleep; Edward moves to The Steamworks but that turns out to be too noisy.

It's winter on Sodor; The steam engines are still waiting for the coal delivery to arrive, when the weather takes a turn for the worst and everything freezes; The engines carry on with their work, but the coal still doesn't arrive.

One snow day, Donald and Douglas pick up a long train of heavy flatbeds; Sir Topham Hatt asks Emily to lend the two engines some puff.

Terence is busy working with The Woodsmen, who are cutting down fir trees for the Christmas Market.

Daisy loves a traditional Sodor Christmas so she is upset when things go differently; There's no snow for the children's Christmas outing; The children change the words to a Christmas song; The Small Engines put on a different show.

Spencer and Gordon are very competitive; Spencer boasts about being a private engine and Gordon boasts about pulling the express and they both insist that they are faster and better than the other.
