The heaven-before-hell scenes are enjoyable, recalling The Beach in their depiction of naïve partying tourists blissfully unaware of the dangers ahead.

Hostel heads to The Beach in this south-of-the-border slice-’em-up, as a group of kick-seeking Turistas (the film’s US title) are lured onto the operating tables of a Brazilian black-market surgery.

John Stockwell...he knows how to build suspense, and his actors do a good job of projecting the requisite dread and panic.
