...beautiful and hypnotic road movie...
...this one is very personal. It seems to come from a single vision of the road, the race, and life; and, paradoxically, the characters need to be impersonal so they don't interfere with this vision.
Certainly not an average car chase movie, TWO-LANE BLACKTOP is perhaps director Monte Hellman's finest film.
Where most boys-with-cars movies pop with the love-of-the-open-road energy of Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, everyone from Two-Lane Blacktop could have stepped prematurely out of Darkness On The Edge Of Town or The River.
