Det finns glimtar av intressanta ögonblick i ”Under the banner of heaven”, framför allt i skildringen av det kvinnohat som verkar finnas invävt i den religiösa fundamentalismen.
Det är uppbyggt på ett riktigt snyggt sätt, där tittarna sitter på helspänn. Mystiken är lagom flummig.
Garfield is the anchor here, his sweet-natured yet steel-spined detective Pyre going on a nightmare journey through blood and believers, reckoning with his own Mormon core.
It’s an elegant and even topical adaptation that dares to ask big questions.
