In the fifth season opener, Brian and Alex are giddy like high-schoolers, hopelessly falling for each other.

When Brian falls down and bruises his tailbone trying to pull up his socks while jogging, he is in too much pain to pilot his flights for Sandpiper Air.

Lowell is having dating difficulties and the gang discovers that he is still hanging onto hopes that he and Bunny (guest star Laura Innes) will reunite.

Frustrated with the shabby shape of his airplane and the need for constant repairs, Joe decides to bring in an outside investor to keep Sandpiper Air alive.

In part two, Joe has been missing for three days after running away from home to escape the pressures of his life. While everyone is concerned and blaming each other, Brian is frantically trying to run the airline and deal with overdue bills.

When Joe finds out that an old friend, Sandy Cooper (guest star Valerie Mahaffey), is in town visiting, he swears that she was obsessed with him in high school.

It's a lonely Saturday night on the cold island of Nantucket when Davis stands Helen up yet again and Alex and Brian fight about past lovers.

Davis finally shows up to visit Helen and wants to take the whole gang out to lunch to get to know each other better. While he freshens up at the hotel, they start raiding the mini-bar and nosing around in his suitcase.

The holiday season always has its ups and downs and this year at Tom Never's Field is no exception. Brian and Alex lock horns because he doesn't want to spend Christmas with her whole family in Florida.

Lowell's constant mothering and annoying nagging is finally too much for Joe and Brian and they tell him it's time to move out. With his feelings hurt and scared to live alone, Lowell begins to sleep at the airport.

Fay is startled by a man searching for her. When a private investigator shows up at Sandpiper Air asking questions and taking her photograph, she begins to imagine people are following her.

The island's resident cantankerous old man, Carlton Blanchard (guest star William Hickey), hires Antonio as a chauffeur for a week during the slow season.

When Fay introduces Joe to her sexy nineteen-year-old study partner, it is lust at first sight for both of them.

When Brian and Alex decide to take the plunge and make their relationship officially exclusive, he seems to be a little shaky about being off the market entirely.

With business painfully slow during Nantucket's off-season and no tourists in sight, Alex is forced to moonlight as a waitress at King Arthur's Bar and Grill and wear a low-cut barmaid outfit.

Brian and Alex become increasingly annoyed by the hassles of waking up at each other's house.

Dan Mattay (guest star Jack Ging), Nantucket's bullying old high school football coach, returns for the dedication of the new Dan Mattay Gymnasium, much to the chagrin of former players Joe and Brian.

When Roy's elegant and attractive ex-wife, Sylvia (guest star Concetta Tomei), shows up on the island for a few days, she shows signs of wanting a reconciliation.

When Davis (guest star Mark Harelik) cancels yet another weekend with Helen, it is the last straw and she leaves a scathing message with his secretary that the relationship is finished.

Danny Quinn (guest star Charles Rocket), an old friend of Brian's from the islands, arrives on Nantucket to catch up on old times.

Brian can't believe his eyes when he spots music legend Ray Charles sitting in the airport waiting area. Yet, when he shares his sob story about his and Alex's break-up, Ray refuses to sing Alex her favorite song, "I Can't Stop Loving You."
